Programs used: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom
Client: University Project for Publication Design
About the Project: This publication is a proposal for the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria Annual Report. Whilst keeping to its corporate nature as an annual report, the publication needs to reflect the values and brand of the RBGV.
Design Direction: The design focuses on a theme of Elegance, as the Gardens are renowned as a picturesque haven with, tranquil lakes and diverse plant collections. This has been portrayed in the aspect of the gardens as a place of continual discovery and delight. In support of the Gardens vision ‘Life is sustained and enriched by plants’ the major themes articulated within the design includes a combination of contemporary and elegance which is represented by the Gardens image. Overall, it aims to show a creative and modern side whilst not losing site of the elegance and history of the Garden's that are important to many visitors.
A serifed typeface is used for the headings and a sans-serifed for the body to harmonise the modern and traditional. Choosing to have coloured photographs of the flora in the publication communicates creativity and a sense of fun, whilst the style of the accompanied photographs and colour theme itself ties into the gardens traditional roots.
